Call to cut abortion time limit; NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL NEWS ROUND-UP.

DOCTORS were to hear calls today for the legal time limit for abortion to be reduced from 24 to 20 weeks.

Some medics believe advances in medical science, which allow very premature babies to survive, mean abortion legislation should be revisited.

But other doctors and sexual health campaigners believe any change will harm women who seek a late termination.

The British Medical Association (BMA) conference in Manchester will debate whether there should be any reduction in the time limit.

The BMA has not debated abortion time limits since 1989.
