Call in the Marines; Mechanics Hall.

Byline: Richard Duckett

COLUMN: TEN THINGS TO DO

"The President's Own" United States Marine Band was established by an act of Congress in 1798, making it America's oldest professional musical organization. Which means that the band does indeed give concerts at the White House. But it tours as well, and the band will be at Mechanics Hall, 321 Main St., Worcester, at 7:30 Oct. 18.

If previous local performances are anything to go by, you can expect a good share of marches (including Sousa), but the band is also known for its innovative programming and taking on new works. Admission to the concert is free, but tickets are required. To reserve tickets call (508) 752-0888.
