Call for survey participation.

FIGHT FOR Sight has joined forces with the College of Optometrists to call on practitioners across the UK to help steer the future of eye health research.

Together with a number of optical bodies, including the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, the RNIB, the UK Vision Strategy and the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre for Ophthalmology, the organisations have launched the Sight Loss and Vision Survey.

Eye health professionals working across the fields of optometry, ophthalmology and orthoptics are being urged to complete the survey and highlight which questions they believe need answering through research.

The information gathered through the survey aims to help ensure that future research programmes funded by charities and organisations target the needs of people with sight loss, their carers and eye health professionals.

Chief executive of Fight for Sight, Michele Acton, said: "For the first time, the Sight Loss and Vision Survey will allow eye health specialists to do just that. We hope that as many professionals as possible working in the field of eye health all over the UK take part, and tell us which questions they want research to answer."

Michael Bowen, director of research at the College, added: "One of the aims of the College is to provide the necessary evidence base to raise standards of optometric practice for the benefit of the public. This initiative will help us to focus our research efforts on filling the most important gaps in evidence in optometric practice, based on what patients, our members and other health practitioners say."
