Calix Inc (NYSE: CALX), a provider of a Unified Access portfolio of broadband communications access software, systems and services, announced on Tuesday the selection by Planet Communications (Planetcomm) of the Calix E7-2 Ethernet Service Access Platform (ESAP) and T-Series optical network terminals (ONTs) for a gigabit passive optical network (GPON) residential and business fibre deployment in Thailand's rapidly growing major cities, including Bangkok and Patty.
Financial details of this selection were not available.
Planetcomm, a Southeast Asian telecomm company, plans to expand its fibre network to meet the demands of Thailand's growing economy by reaching over 100,000 homes with fibre within the next five years and also plans to begin delivering advanced IP services in the next year.
Planetcomm aims to roll out fibre for a variety of different network environments, including networks for local service providers to deliver managed services such as IPTV. It will also work with developers to offer high-end services in new housing and industrial developments within urban settings. In addition, Planetcomm can offer new services in existing residential developments by replacing cable and copper with fibre to provide high quality, ultra-fast broadband and enable IPTV, VoIP, and other advanced broadband services.
