Caliper Technologies Names David Milligan, Abbott Chief Scientific Officer, to Board.

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 26, 1996--Caliper Technologies Corporation today announced the election of David V. Milligan, Ph.D., to the company's board of directors. Dr. Milligan is currently senior vice president and chief scientific officer of Abbott Laboratories.

"David Milligan brings to our board a wealth of experience in leading research and development for both diagnostic and pharmaceutical products," said Michael R. Knapp, Ph.D., Caliper vice president of science and technology. "We greatly look forward to having his guidance as Caliper advances its first products to the marketplace."

Dr. Milligan has been an employee of Abbott since 1979, where he has held a series of increasingly responsible management roles related to research and development. Prior to joining Abbott, he held senior management positions at such companies as Xonics Medical Systems, Litton Dental Products, and Litton Medical Systems. He received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in organic chemistry from the University of Illinois. Dr. Milligan also serves on the board of directors of ICOS Corporation and on the chemistry department advisory boards of the University of California, Berkeley and Princeton University.

Caliper Technologies Corporation was founded to develop and commercialize new automated tools for biochemical analysis that offer the functional equivalent of a chemistry laboratory on a microchip. The company is applying advanced microfabrication from the semiconductor industry to the automated handling of fluids in order to develop rapid, affordable and easy-to-use systems for a variety of research, industrial and medical diagnostic applications. In doing so, Caliper expects to fundamentally change the way that chemical, biological and clinical information is generated and used.
