Calatrava is outstanding.

The International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) presented its 2004 Outstanding Structure Award to a project by architect, engineer and artist Santiago Calatrava, at a ceremony held at the IABSE Symposium in Shanghai, China.

The award was given for the expansion of the Milwaukee Art Museum, which was completed to international acclaim in October 2001.

In presenting the award, IABSE described the project as "a museum expansion expressing art, dramatic architecture and complementary structure including a unique brise soleil, a sunscreen which opens and closes as a unique moving sculpture."

Mr. Calatrava received the award at the opening session of the symposium, which included a luncheon ceremony.
