CalComp launches Learn 'n Sketch drawing tablet for kids; digitizer leader brings graphics expertise to edutainment market.

ANAHEIM, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 25, 1996--CalComp (NASDAQ: CLCP), the world leader in professional graphics tablets, has entered the "edutainment" market with Learn 'n Sketch, a computer drawing tablet aimed at children of all ages.

The Learn 'n Sketch tablet has a U.S. suggested retail price of $89.95 and will be available for the holiday season.

The easy-to-use tablet will help children learn their ABCs, practice their penmanship and sharpen their drawing skills with its friendly pen. The Learn 'n Sketch package also includes Broderbund's popular Kid Pix Studio, along with a set of 10 drawing templates that will help children draw geometric shapes and other designs.

Designed to be both entertaining and educational, Learn 'n Sketch will provide many hours of family fun sketching, coloring and playing challenging games.

Learn 'n Sketch is a friendly green tablet -- with a drawing area of 5 x 7 inches -- that is built with children in mind. For example, the pen, designed to fit a child's hand -- right or left -- is shaped like a yellow corn cob, and the ENTER key is a bright red strawberry. The pen also doubles as an easy-to-use mouse substitute and is tethered, so children won't lose it.

"With the Learn 'n Sketch line, CalComp is using its many years of experience in providing professional graphics solutions to create a family of products aimed at the edutainment market," said Jim Bell, senior vice president of CalComp's Input Technologies Division. "Learn 'n Sketch will give children and their families a rewarding drawing experience."

The Learn 'n Sketch experience can be further enhanced with the purchase of additional drawing templates that let children draw scenes ranging from cowboys to outerspace. In addition, five CD titles from PenManShip Software and 10 from Science for Kids, each compatible with the new drawing tablet, will be available at retail outlets offering Learn 'n Sketch, or through an accessories catalog included with the package.

In addition to Kid Pix Studio, the 10 drawing templates and the accessories catalog, the package also includes a software driver disk and a user's manual. The tablet is compatible with personal computers running Microsoft Windows or Windows 95, and connects to the PC via the serial port.

Learn 'n Sketch will be available through retailers and catalog merchants. More information can be obtained by phoning, toll free, 800/992-9549.
