Performance materials company Cabot Corporation (NYSE:CBT) reported on Tuesday the launch of two new carbon black products for tire tread applications, the PROPEL E7 and PROPEL D11.

The company stated the PROPEL E7 carbon black is engineered to reduce tire rolling resistance and improve vehicle fuel economy. The PROPEL D11 carbon black is designed to provide a high level of tread durability and is well suited for use in both short-haul truck and off-the-road vehicle tires.

In conjunction with the launch, the company will showcase these two new products at Tire Technology Expo 2014 from 11-13 February 2014 in Cologne, Germany.

According to the company, the PROPEL E7 carbon black is designed to enable tires with lower rolling resistance without sacrificing tire durability. Its laboratory tests demonstrate that PROPEL E7 carbon black reduces the hysteresis (energy loss) of typical tire tread compounds by 15% when compared to the same laboratory tests of Cabot VULCAN 7H carbon black.

PROPEL D11 carbon black is engineered to provide a high level of rubber reinforcement that resist cutting, tearing and abrasion and extend the useful life of a tire. Its laboratory tests demonstrate a 10% improvement in laboratory abrasion resistance in natural rubber compounds when compared to the same laboratory tests of Cabot VULCAN 10H carbon black, the company concluded.
