Cabletron Unveils Dynamic New Business Operations Plan for Flagship SPECTRUM Management Products.

ROCHESTER, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 13, 1998--

Dedicated R&D, Sales and Marketing are Part of the Plan to Accelerate Growth

Positioning itself for quick and dramatic development of its network management business, Cabletron Systems (NYSE:CS) today announced plans for a new SPECTRUM Software Solutions and Services Organization.

The plan significantly increases dedicated resources to Cabletron's SPECTRUM management solutions -- which are widely regarded as leading the industry in both technology and scalability. The plan accelerates future development of a version of SPECTRUM targeted at mid-range markets. The new organization also aims to dramatically increase SPECTRUM's visibility in the market by expanding Cabletron's alliances with the industry's leading network and systems management companies.

Key changes to Cabletron's new software organization include new leadership, additions to the SPECTRUM family of products and services, and an enhanced software-focused sales organization. As a key component of a total management solutions offering, Cabletron will also vertically integrate SPECTRUM services and products from partners, consultants and providers of highly-recognized management platforms.

"The worldwide Network and System Management market totaled nearly $9 Billion in 1997 and is forecast to grow to $16 Billion by 2002", said Paul Mason, Vice President of Infrastructure Software Research at IDC. "This announcement frees the SPECTRUM organization to participate in this dynamic market, where they could potentially make a major contribution because of their experience in service-level and change management."

SPECTRUM Software Solutions and Services extends Cabletron's dedication to offer today's IT environments with Smart Solutions, in key areas like service-level management, asset and change management, capacity planning, accounting and billing.

"The new business operation will focus our efforts and harness SPECTRUM's position as one of the most unique and powerful management platforms in the industry," said Cabletron's President of Worldwide Operations, John d' Auguste. "SPECTRUM is a powerful differentiator for Cabletron, and we intend to maximize its unique capabilities, allowing us to further extend our relationships with customers, and key channel and technology partners."

Additional Sales and Marketing Resources

Cabletron will expand its sales and marketing resources, adding dedicated executive teams specialized in selling and supporting software solutions. The new SPECTRUM solutions teams will work to meet customers' business requirements, providing a unique mix of SPECTRUM products, partner applications, consulting, support and professional services.

Ken Sullivan, who formerly managed Cabletron's service and support department, will oversee the company's new SPECTRUM Software Solutions and Service Organization.

New Products and Services

Cabletron is also currently developing a significant enhancement to the SPECTRUM family of products, that will be targeted at small to medium sized network infrastructures. The new product will aim to deliver core SPECTRUM functionality to meet the needs and budgets of this growing market segment.
