Cabbie buys out taxi firm.

A Newcastle cabbie has bought out a leading city taxi company.

Mohammed Sulleman has taken over Metro City Taxis based in Worswick Street from the Go Ahead Northern Group.

He said: "Metro City has a good name in Newcastle. It has been established many years, has a large fleet of vehicles and a dedicated set of drivers."

Jimmy Blake, former chairman of the Newcastle Hackney Drivers' Association, has come out of retirement to help with the business.

"We are looking at securing present and new contracts," he said.

"Bookings are already filling up for the festive season. Any businesses holding Christmas parties can open an account, short or long term."
