CYCLE SPEEDWAY: Coventry stage all-star event.

THE stars of cycle speedway assemble in Coventry tomorrow for the British Senior Individual Championships at Hearsall Common (3pm).

Sixteen of the sport's top track masters will be lining up, including Coventry's Devlins Newsagents' Ray Oliver, a former world champion.

Coventry's brilliant 15-year-old pin-up boy Matthew Lawrence carries the Devlins Newsagents colours in the semi-finals of the British junior individual championships, also at Hearsall Common tomorrow (12.30pm).

The junior event will act as a curtain raiser for the senior championships and Lawrence is determined to qualify for the British junior final, at Wolverhampton on Bank Holiday Monday.

He will be joined in semi-final action by Devlins newsagent team mate Karl Lerigo, aged 16.

Coventry's rising star Ben Davies lines up in the Sandwell semi-final.

Coventry cruised to a 101-77 British league victory over Birmingham last week.

The City side were superbly led by Joe McLaughlin, who raced to an immaculate maximum.

Coventry point scorers:

1. Ashley Pointer 16 + 1; 2. Mike Grimes 17; 3. Joe McLaughlin 16; 4. Jex Hughes 8; 5. Matthew Lawrence 11 + 3; 6. Ray Oliver 12 + 2; 7. Dave Frith 11 +1; 8. Ben Davies 10.

The juniors beat Birmingham 69-50.
