COVENTRY DEVLINS NEWSAGENTS have swooped to sign world champion Dave Helmsley (right). The 33-year-old six times British champion, who lives in Leicester, will provide a potent spearhead in Coventry's second full season of competition.
Helmsley has signed on a secondary registration from parent club Poole. The regulations will debar him from Coventry's national league fixtures but he will be able to line up in the club's British League, Midland Division, matches.
Helmsley, who defends his world title in Manchester in July, said: "I am pleased to be joining such a go ahead and progressive club as Coventry."
Helmsley added: "If Coventry step up to the top tier Premier League next year, I will be looking to sign a full and permanent transfer."
Coventry chairman Gary Pointer: "This is fantastic news. We now have a team capable of challenging for honours."
