CWA RALLIES IN NINE STATES TO MARK START
OF BELLSOUTH CONTRACT TALKS ON WEDNESDAY
Members of the Communications Workers of America will hold rallies in nine states, to kick-off negotiations for a new three-year contract with BellSouth. The rallies will all be held on Wednesday, June 10, at noon EDT, 11 a.m. CDT.
The rallies will highlight the union's bargaining goals of employment security and good jobs for American workers and communities, in the rapidly growing telecommunications industry.
BellSouth is an extremely profitable industry leader, but the growth areas of the company have been walled off from union representation and the pay, benefits, and opportunities for advancement provided under the union contract.
CWA represents some 61,840 workers at BellSouth, in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
