CUTLER RIDGE MALL TO BE REBUILT BY DEBARTOLO
CUTLER RIDGE, Florida /PRNewswire/ -- Despite experiencing serious

damage from Hurricane Andrew on Aug. 24, Cutler Ridge Mall in Cutler Ridge, Fla. is being rebuilt by the mall's owner, The Edward J. DeBartolo Corporation of Youngstown, Ohio.
The 1,166,646 square foot facility suffered heavy wind and water damage as a result of the 150 mph sustained winds and storm swells that were generated by what is being termed as the most costly natural disaster in the history of the united States.
DeBartolo, which operates more than 27 million square feet of retail space in Florida, has brought crews in from across the state and around the country to assist in the clean-up and rebuilding of Cutler Ridge Mall and community center.
"We understand the important role that Cutler Ridge Mall plays in meeting the needs of area residents. We will do everything in our power to assist these people in rebuilding their lives," explained Edward J. DeBartolo, chairman and chief executive officer of the nation's largest shopping mall development and management firm. "We've been a part of this community for more than 25 years and we will continue to provide retail services for the residents."
Cutler Ridge Mall's department stores -- Burdines (two stores), Mervyn's, JCPenney and Sears -- are working on repairing their facilities and will reopen as soon as possible, along with the 121 specialty shops which comprise the merchandising mix.
Cutler Ridge Mall is located at the intersection of US 1 and Caribbean Blvd., adjacent to Florida's Turnpike. The Facility was originally opened in 1960 as a strip center with 33 stores and a free standing Sears. Its development over the past 32 years epitomizes the progression of regional malls. Between 1976 and 1981, more small shop space was added along with two new department stores. Two more anchors were added in 1982 and 1983, respectively.
Headquartered in Youngstown, Ohio, the DeBartolo Corporation has more than 95 million square feet of commercial space to its credit in more than 20 states.
