CUSTOMERS POLLED SAY POSTAL SERVICE HAS IMPROVED IN SEATTLE; DELIVERY PERFORMANCE RANKED NATION'S BEST

SEATTLE, July 8 /PRNewswire/ -- More than nine out of 10 postal customers polled in the Seattle area are pleased with the service they receive at their local post office.
According to results of the Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) survey released today by Postmaster General Marvin Runyon, 92 percent of Seattle-area post office customers polled rated the service they receive as "excellent," "very good," or "good."
Seattle's CSI rating is two points higher than the score achieved here a year ago. Seattle Postmaster Lee Salazar said that while the score is up, there is much room for improvement, and Seattle area postal employees are working to satisfy customers even more: "All of us are committed to providing better service so that our customers feel we've done our best for them, each and every time they use the mail."
The independent poll conducted by Opinion Research Corp. covered the three months ended in May; survey results are tabulated quarterly. The national CSI score this quarter was 89 percent, up two points from last year.
In another independent measure of performance, Seattle achieved the top score in the country for on-time delivery of 94 percent of overnight-committed First-Class Mail during the quarter ended in May, a survey conducted by the accounting firm of Price Waterhouse showed. During the same period last year, Seattle scored a 91 percent rating. Nationwide, the overnight First-Class service performance score was 84 percent on-time -- up one point from last year.
This is the third quarter in a row that Seattle has achieved the best performance score in the country in on-time First-Class Mail delivery.
