CURTIS JOINS DEKALB GENETICS AS AREA DIRECTOR OF EUROPEAN SEED OPERATIONS

 DEKALB, Ill., July 22 /PRNewswire/ -- DEKALB Genetics Corporation said today that Robert L. Curtis has joined the company as area director, responsible for seed operations in Europe and the former Soviet Union. Curtis, 44, comes to DEKALB from Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc., where he was part of that seed company's international management team.
 "We are delighted to have Robert Curtis join the DEKALB organization," said Richard O. Ryan, president of DEKALB Genetics. "Robert brings extensive experience in international operations and the seed industry, and we are confident that he will play a key role in building DEKALB's international seed business."
 Curtis spent five years with Pioneer, most recently as business director, worldwide cotton operations, and previously as director, special projects -- Eastern Europe and USSR; and regional director of Latin American operations. Earlier, Curtis was chief financial officer for the international division of American Medical International, Beverly Hills, California, and strategic planning manager for Getty Oil Company, Los Angeles.
 Curtis received a bachelor of arts degree from Concordia University in Quebec, a master of business administration degree from Columbia University and a Ph.D. in management from the University of California at Los Angeles.
 Curtis and his wife, Claudia, will relocate to Bruck, Austria, where DEKALB's European office is located.
 Based in DeKalb, Illinois, DEKALB Genetics Corporation is engaged in the research, production and marketing of agricultural seed, hybrid swine and egg-laying breeding stock. DEKALB Genetics Corporation Class B Common Stock is traded on the NASDAQ National Market System, under the symbol SEEDB.
