CURTICE BURNS FOODS SELLS DURA-BUKET BUSINESS

ROCHESTER, N.Y., March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Curtice Burns Foods (AMEX: CBI), a food processor, today announced the sale of the Dura- Buket business of its Cedar-Rapids-based National Oats division, to Maxi-Lift, Inc., of Carrollton, Texas. Dura-Buket markets and sells plastic conveyer buckets to grain elevators. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
"The sale of Dura-Buket fits in with our continuing mission of concentrating on core businesses," commented Curtice Burns President David J. McDonald. "Dura-Buket does not fall within those categories. Following this sale, National Oats can focus management efforts on its primary business, popcorn and oats." National Oats produces and sells hot cereals, grits, oat bran, microwave and polybag popcorn to retail and foodservice customers. Labels include 3-Minute Brand, Super Pop, Pops-Rite and Popeye.
When Curtice Burns acquired National Oats in January 1980, ?also acquired its sideline business, Dura-Buket. Dura-Buket is currently run from a separate warehouse in Cedar Rapids, but Maxi-Lift will eventually move the business to Texas.
Maxi-Lift, which was founded in 1973 by Victor A. Sahm Jr., manufactures elevator buckets and components. Sahm is president of the privately held family business. "Dura-Buket is an excellent addition to our company," he noted. "It is a perfect fit for our business and we look forward to the continuing growth and expansion of Maxi-Lift."
Curtice Burns Foods processes and markets 24 product lines of regional branded, private label and foodservice products through nine autonomously managed divisions and 55 plants and warehouses located throughout the United States and Western Canada.
