CURRY CONMAN MADE A MEAL OF DIAMONDS; Shocked couple watched on as crook swallowed their gems.
A CURRY crook who garnished his lamb bhuna with his pubic hair has also been revealed to be a diamond-swallowing con artist.
Lee Tyers' antics in as n Indian restaurant were revealed in the Gazette last week.
He put his hands down his trousers, pulled out his own pubic hair and put it on his plate in Jamal's restaurant, on Corporation Road, Middlesbrough. Then he falsely claimed he'd found the hair in his food to get out of paying the bill. Tyers, 40, denied that the incident took place but was found guilty by Teesside magistrates. But since Tyres was jailed for the curry con, he appeared before a judge at Teesside CrownCourt and was jailed for an additional 22 months. Last month Tyers, ofMount Leven Road, Yarm, was also jailed for 16 weeks for the theft of four diamonds onDecember 6 last year. He went into the home ofMargaret Chapman and her goldsmith husband, Ercan Eryilmaz, 36, - saying he wanted two pieces of diamond jewellery made for Christmas presents. But when viewing the diamonds at the couple's Linthorpe home, he asked for a glass of water and glugged four diamonds down. Margaret, 67, said: s s "My husband brought out a tray of four diamonds for Tyers to see. He had bought them for PS1,000 - PS250 each - and said he was prepared to give them to him for the wholesale price and only charge him for the work. "The next thing, Tyres was trying to handle them and asked for a glass of water. I didn't think anything of it at the time. He then tipped them into his hands and said he would give us PS500 for them. "Within a second he had them in his mouth, got the glass of water and swallowed them.Wewere so shocked. Lee Tyres said it was an accident. I've never heard of anything so bizarre." Tyres said the couple would get the money the next day but it never came and Margaret went to the police. Tyres eventually handed a bag of his excrement to officers, but the diamonds have never been recovered. He denied the offence but was found guilty by Teesside magistrates.
At the time of the offence, he was in breach of a 12-week prison sentence suspended for a year, which was imposed inMay last year for assault and breaching an anti-social behaviour order. Tyers was ordered to pay PS1,000 compensation with PS700 costs. But Margaret says she has since received a letter saying the justice system is now seeking to extend his prison terminstead of him having to pay up because he is currently unable to make payments from prison. In another case, Tyres pleaded guilty to the unlawful wounding of another man onMarch 6. He was jailed for 18 months for this crime. Four months was also added for handling stolen goods - a VW Passat - which Tyers also admitted, from January 17 last year.
