CUNA Mutual Group has chosen Passport, legal compliance solutions provider ELM Solutions' Enterprise Legal Management technology platform, to replace their legacy legal management, e-billing, and compliance systems. Passport enables enterprise organizations to use one platform to provide a comprehensive solution to manage legal matter, spend, and GRC processes on a single, secure, collaborative framework.

After a long and rigorous evaluation process, where multiple departments evaluated each of the competitive solutions, CUNA Mutual Group chose Passport as its solution for legal matter and spend management, document management, and compliance management. Implementation is expected to be completed later this year.

"Streamlining our technology from multiple solutions to one allows us to be more efficient and focus on how we can serve our customers," said Emily Gnam, associate general counsel, CUNA Mutual Group. "The Passport platform meets our needs for integrated compliance and legal matter/spend management, and for sharing critical information between legal and compliance functions."

"We started as early pioneers in legal e-billing and, over more than two decades, have continued to drive the evolution of the legal technology market as our clients' needs have evolved and grown," explained Heather Generes, global VP, Product Management and Marketing, ELM Solutions. "Our technology has been recognized as industry-leading by key legal technology analysts , which is a result of our significant investment in technology innovation and R&D -- we invest more in R&D than any of our competitors."

This investment drove the development of Passport, which is now the most advanced technology platform in the industry, according to Generes. Passport is the only solution that enables enterprises to combine all of their systems that manage legal, risk, and compliance activities in one, secure place.

CUNA Mutual Group selected Passport for many reasons, including its unique abilities to: automate and create efficiencies around regulatory change management via integration with the regulatory content service used by CUNA Mutual Group; streamline daily matter and case management by making collaboration easy via the Passport integration with Microsoft Outlook; centralize and consolidate reporting across multiple data sources, which provides maximum visibility into legal matters, risk, compliance, and cost; meet CUNA Mutual Group changing business needs through the use of Passport Toolkits, which allow companies to configure and extend Passport to address their requirements and; deliver a simple UI that spans both legal and compliance functions, and supports integrated search across a range of items.

"CUNA Mutual Group was faced with the daunting challenge of replacing and consolidating legacy legal management, e-billing, and compliance systems, which were from multiple vendors and had become cost prohibitive and ineffective. CUNA selected Passport because of its unique abilities to facilitate integrated compliance and legal matter and spend management, and to share critical information between legal and compliance functions," explained Shaheen Javadizadeh, VP, Global Sales at ELM Solutions.

Moving forward, CUNA will use the Passport GRC Portal as the primary employee-facing interface to harmonize its integrated Legal and GRC ecosystem. For instance, the company will use the GRC Portal to support basic legal services and contract requests.

"Managing processes across systems from multiple vendors is often cost prohibitive due to disconnected technology and workflows and siloed, inconsistent data analysis and reporting," said Generes. "Enterprise Legal Management is much bigger than just legal matter management and e-billing. Passport allows organizations like CUNA Mutual Group to take a more strategic, holistic, and proactive approach to enterprise legal, risk, and compliance management."

Today, ELM Solutions combines its deep domain expertise, advanced technology platform, extensive global network, and the resources of Wolters Kluwer -- its parent organization and a global information services company -- to bring innovation and insight to its customers. Generes added, "This enables us to deliver solutions that empower our customers to make better business decisions, mitigate risk more effectively, work more collaboratively, and ultimately, deliver greater value to their clients."
