CUE NETWORK CORP. ANNOUNCES JOINT VENTURE WITH TFT INC. OF SAN JOSE, CALIF.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- CUE Network Corp. announced today that it has entered into a joint venture with TFT Inc. of San Jose, Calif., to design and supply emergency alerting systems for industrial and public applications. The systems will be marketed under the tradename "EmergencyAlert" by Emergency Alert Communications Corp.
The EmergencyAlert system has the ability to monitor emergency messages from the National Weather Service and city, county and state public safety authorities. EmergencyAlert will utilize TFT's EIS Manager, a computer-based multimedia device that can monitor any information source. The EIS Manager is preprogrammed to make decisions based upon location and the needs of system users. Information can be instantly transmitted to those who require it, including all electronic media, radio, television and cable systems. In addition, EmergencyAlert will transmit locally, regionally and nationwide on the nationwide radio data system of CUE Network Corp. This FM subcarrier system will activate numeric and alpha pagers as well as sirens and other warning devices.
Joe Wu, president of TFT, said, "We see a tremendous future in integrating our computer-based information systems with CUE's nationwide network and vehicle location system. Both public and private authorities will be able to meet their emergency alerting requirements with one source."
TFT is a leading manufacturer of broadcast equipment for AM-FM television stations and cable systems. Since 1970, the company has supplied more than 70 percent of the Emergency Broadcast system used by the American broadcasting industry. The company is located in Santa Clara, Calif.
Gordon Kaiser, chairman and chief executive officer of CUE, said, "This agreement with TFT will allow CUE's public network to be fully integrated with private emergency systems. Our pagers and mobile data receivers can be accessed virtually anywhere in Canada and the United States and the signal can be directed locally, regionally or nationwide. This should be an enormous advantage to those responsible for public safety."
CUE Nete than 90 percent of the population of the United States. The company serves more than 85,000 subscribers through distributors as well as direct sales offices. CUE's distributors include leading telephone companies such as Bell South, Cincinnati Bell, Century Telephone and McCaw Cellular.
CUE's network is also used to provide non-paging services, many of which will be integrated into the Emergency Alert service. These include pinpoint, a real time differential GPS service provided in conjunction with Magnavox, a subsidiary of Philips Electronics. The Pinpoint service increases the accuracy of location information received from the Department of Defense Global Positioning Satellite System. EmergencyAlert will utilize these facilities together with a GPS-based vehicle tracking system marketed by CUE.
