CUB FOODS' AD CAMPAIGN PROMISES CONSUMER LOWER EVERYDAY PRICES

CUB FOODS' AD CAMPAIGN PROMISES CONSUMER LOWER EVERYDAY PRICES
DENVER, Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Cub Foods, the company that brought discount grocery retailing to Colorado, has launched an aggressive multimedia ad campaign in the Denver market.
The ads, created internally, encourage consumers to shop any of Cub Foods' six Denver stores and compare prices with King Soopers. Customers who bring in competitor coupons will be given the same item, only cheaper. Customers who bring in any King Soopers' advertised coupon will be given a lower price.
"By shopping at Cub Foods, people will see that we offer the lowest possible prices every day on a variety of brand name products -- and we are consistent with that promise," said Mr. Lynn Olsen, Cub Foods Denver division director. "On any given day a competitor can beat one of our prices. But we are out to prove that over the long term, we are consistently lower. This has been and will continue to be our pledge to our customers."
Olsen said, "In our first five years in Colorado, one of the country's most competitive grocery markets, Cub Foods pricing has saved Cub shoppers approximately $125 million."
This figure is based on Cub Foods' estimate of sales and the 10 to 15 percent savings realized by shopping at Cub Foods, according to Olsen.
"Five years ago, Cub brought its discount retailing to Denver and set a trend in this city's discount supermarket shopping," Olsen said. "At the time, Denver had one of the highest food price markets in the country, and we are happy that we have been able to change that."
In addition, non-Cub shoppers have saved millions of dollars as Cub Foods competition has had to reduce their prices in response to Cub's lower pricing strategies.
The first Denver Cub Foods store opened in May 1986 on east 6th Ave. in Aurora. Within only five years, the company has grown to eight stores, six in Denver and two in Colorado Springs, and created 1,700 jobs in Colorado. There are 83 Cub Foods stores in 13 states.
