CSAA RELEASES PRELIMINARY HUMBOLDT QUAKE INSURANCE CLAIM DATA

CSAA RELEASES PRELIMINARY HUMBOLDT QUAKE INSURANCE CLAIM DATA
SAN FRANCISCO, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The California State Automobile Association (CSAA) today issued the following data and information concerning CSAA insurance claims arising from the Humboldt earthquake. How Many CSAA Policy Holders Have Suffered Losses?
CSAA insures 348 properties in areas most hard-hit by the earthquake. As of late Sunday, we had confirmed more than 69 damaged residences. We are in the process of determining the total extent of damage. A small number of cars were damaged, too, but we don't yet know how many. Have You Been Able to Contact All of Your Policyholders Yet?
By Sunday night, we had contacted two-thirds of our affected customers. Although circumstances are complicating our efforts (damaged roads and bridges, some communication problems) we expect that we will soon be able to reach every policyholder. How Many of Your Policyholders had Earthquake Insurance?
Of the 69 confirmed claims, 10 have earthquake insurance coverage. Do Homeowners Without Earthquake Insurance Have Any Insurance Coverage At All?
CSAA policyholders may qualify for our unique Limited All-Perils (L.A.P.) coverage. This provides up to $1,500 in additional living costs, and up to five percent of the personal property coverage on each policy for personal property which is damaged as a result of a circumstance not otherwise covered under the policy. The damaged residence must also be uninhabitable for at least one day, due to conditions such as power failures or government-mandated evacuations. This means that Humboldt earthquake victims insured by CSAA who do not have earthquake insurance may nonetheless qualify for L.A.P benefits. CSAA-insured victims of the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake received $50 million in overall benefits, $30 million of which was for Limited All-Perils coverage. CSAA designed and implemented this coverage at no added premium during the massive winter storms of 1982, upon discovering that many of its customers had no coverage for the devastating losses caused by those storms. Where Can Policyholders Contact CSAA for Help?
Between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., CSAA customers should call the Eureka District Office at 707-443-5087. The office is located at 707 L Street. CSAA has established an emergency telephone hot-line for its customers during non-business hours: 800-222-5040. Has CSAA Begun to Issue Insurance Checks to Victims?
We expect to begin issuing funds to some affected customers on Monday. CSAA claims specialists will travel to affected areas throughout the week, depending on road access and other prevailing conditions. They plan to visit Rio Dell, Ferndale, Fortuna, Fields Landing and Scotia.
CSAA insures more than 230,000 residences in Northern California and Nevada.
