CROWN CRUISE LINE ANNOUNCES PURCHASE OF
REMAINING 50 PERCENT INTEREST IN CROWN MONARCH
CORAL GABLES, Fla., June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Crown Cruise Line and its sister company, Commodore Cruise Line, today announced the purchase from Palm Beach Cruises S.A. of the remaining 50 percent interest in the cruise ship, Crown Monarch.
Commodore purchased its original 50 percent share of the vessel in June 1991. With today's announcement, Commodore owns Crown Cruise Line and the Crown Monarch in their entirety.
This purchase will facilitate the long-term develpoment of Crown Cruise Line as a deluxe brand, operating a fleet of intimate ships on longer cruises to the Eastern & Western Caribbean, Canada/New England and the Panama Canal.
Palm Beach Cruises, at the same time, will continue to concentrate on cruises of shorter duration with the one-day Viking Princess.
Crown Cruise Line will more than triple its capacity with the July 1992 delivery of the brand-new, 820-passenger Crown Jewel, and its sister-ship, the Crown Dynasty, in spring, 1993. With three brand-new ships, all less than two years old, Crown Cruise Line operates the world's newest cruise fleet.
The Crown Jewel will debut at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona this summer, and will make its inaugural Transatlantic voyage to New York in August. From there, the vessel will sail a series of New England/Canada cruises and two trans-Panama Canal cruises, before heading to its home port of Palm Beach for Eastern Caribbean cruises to San Salvador, St. Thomas, San Juan (overnight) and Crown's private beach, Labadie Shores.
The 530-passenger Crown Monarch makes the Port of Palm Beach its home for most of the year, sailing to the Western Caribbean with port calls at Key West, Grand Cayman, Ocho Rios and Labadie Shores. This fall, the Crown Monarch will alternate between New York and Montreal, making weekly sailings to Canada/New England.
In addition, two brand-new Panama Canal itineraries have been announced for the Crown Monarch this November and December, sailing between Palm Beach and Acapulco.
The executive offices for Crown Cruise Line are located at 800 Douglas Road, Coral Gables, Fla. 33134.
