 TO NEW SEAT ON BOARD OF DIRECTORS
 HANOVER, Md., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Crop Genetics International (NASDAQ: CROP) today announced the election of Thomas W. Parton to a new position on the company's board of directors. This appointment expands the board from nine to ten members.
 Parton was managing director of the agricultural division at Ciba- Geigy, A.G., in Basel, Switzerland until his retirement in 1991. During his 12-year tenure as the head of the agricultural division, Ciba-Geigy became the largest crop protection company in the world with more than $2.8 billion in revenues.
 Parton began his career in 1954 with Geigy Ltd. in Manchester, England. In 1965, he became chief corporate planner. He was named head of the Canadian pharmaceutical division in 1967, and became president of Ciba-Geigy (Canada) Ltd. in 1970. Parton returned to England in 1974 to become managing director of Ciba-Geigy's photographic business, then in 1979 was named to run the company's agricultural division. Parton was educated at the Manchester College of Commerce in England and served in the Royal Navy form 1943 to 1946.

approaches for synthetic chemicals. The company's


InStar (TM) Division is developing and commercializing insecticidal virus products for use on vegetables, cotton and fruits. Using recombinant DNA technology, the InCide (R) Division is developing plant vaccine systems in which plant seeds are inoculated with genetically engineered microorganisms to provide season-long and environmentally compatible pest control. The Xtend(TM) division is developing combination of naturally occurring bacterial agents and chemical herbicides to control a broad range of weed species while significantly reducing conventional chemical usage. The Kleontek(R) Division has developed and now markets disease-free, high yielding sugarcane seed products.
