CRICKET: Oswestry overcome Newport to go third.
AN UNBEATEN century from John Cadwallader saw Oswestry move third in the Proactive Shropshire Premier League with a 44-run victory over Newport. The opener carried his bat for 102noand John Cornford weighed in with 97 as the Morda-Roadmen posted an impressive 256-2 from 50 overs. Mark Robinson then bagged 5- 41 as Newport were sent back for 212 in reply.
Newtown,looking to stay among the leading pack, steadied the ship with a draw against Madeley.
The mid-Wales men were made to work hard before posting a modest 157-7,Chris Laas top scoring on 61.
Madeley also found runs hard to come by in reply,closing on 125-8.
Rob Birch produced a solid all- round display as Welshpool enjoyed the better of a draw with Montgomery in the Rollinson Smith Shropshire League Division One. First,Birch hit 64, withDanny Haycocks scoring 46no,as Pool posted 215-7 off 45 overs.
And all-rounder Birch was then in action with the ball, picking up four wickets to restrict Monty to 193- 9. Colin Davies top scored with 54 for the hosts and Tim Swanson made 36.
Llanidloes' bowlers were put to the sword at Alberbury, who rattled up 290-5 with 180 runs coming off the last 20 overs.
Mark Jones led the way with 106. Mike Crawshaw also weighed in with 74, while Adrian Foulkes claimed 2-59.
Llani were going well on 139-0 before the loss of openers Ziad Malik (70)and Andrew Evans (64)halted their momentum, leaving the visitors to settle for a draw on 216-9.
All-rounder Simon Moorhouse,meanwhile, was taken to hospital after suffering a depressed fracture of the cheekbone while fielding.
