Want to move beyond the limits of your local Pottery Barn or Crate & Barrel? Then yes, Virginia, there are stores that still offer original stylish products at reasonable prices. In New York, they belong to a number of interior designers and suppliers who are taking their visions of domestic beauty directly to the shopping public with their own stores. These stores, scattered throughout the city, offer the designer's style without the commitment or the cost of hiring them for a project. From a signature candle to a full room of furnishings, they offer a great alternative to the almost inescapable cookie-cutter experiences that shopping has become.

Wolf's Den

Aero Dynamic

Aero, designer Thomas O'Brien's store in SoHo, offers wares that have a vague retro-chic quality but are as thoroughly modern as his Hickory Chair furniture collection.

Apartment Furnished

Langham & Co., Richard Keith Langham's recently opened Upper East Side shop, features his furniture collection and such accessories as his signature candle in an inviting living-roomlike environment.

Garden Variety

Interior designer, gardener and author Bunny Williams, above, who started her career at the august decorating firm of Parish Hadley, and partner John Rosselli have created Treillage, an Upper East Side mecca for beautiful garden furniture and accessories.

East Side Story

John Rosselli International on the Upper East Side continues to be a de rigeur stop on any designer's hunt for the perfect something. Owner John Rosselli, above, said the East 72nd Street store is due to reopen in mid-November after a refurbishing.
