CRAZY 'CUSTOMER FROM HELL' TO BE FOCUS OF NEW, LIGHT-HEARTED BIWEEKLY SERIES PREMIERING ON "MARKETPLACE" SEPT. 27

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- "Customers From Hell," a new biweekly series featuring stories about nutty, demanding or unreasonable customers, will premiere Monday, Sept. 27, on "Marketplace," American Public Radio's daily business magazine show.
"Everyone loves to tell stories about how a clerk at the post office or a convenience store mistreated them, or about the terrible service they got at some restaurant. Well, we figure a lot of people who work in those places have dome pretty good stories about unreasonable customers," comments Senior Producer, J.J. Yore.
"Marketplace" will start its new "Customers From Hell" series with vignettes gathered by its staff, including:
-- A waiter at a Manhattan restaurant talking about throwing food at
 a demanding customer.
-- A video store employee struggling to survive an encounter with a
 mother and her screaming kids.
 -- A bar/restaurant manager's experience with a drunken patron who
dropped his teeth on the floor -- literally.
-- And a twist in the theme -- a poor Moscow woman who nearly lost
her life trying to buy butter at what was once her favorite food
shop. The moral of the story -- "If you think the service is bad
 here, try Russia."
"Marketplace" will continue the series every other Monday with reports from listeners who have had terrible experiences with customers. Listeners will be encouraged to phone "Marketplace" at 213-743-6555, or write "Customers From Hell," Marketplace, USC Radio, Los Angeles, CA 90089. Authors whose stories are chosen for broadcast will receive a $100 U.S. Savings Bond.
"Marketplace" is produced in Los Angeles at the University of Southern California Radio and distributed by APR to over 200 public radio stations nationwide. The exclusive corporate underwriter for "Marketplace" is CE, with major funding also from The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, public radio stations nationwide, and the American Public Radio Program fund.
