 CRAY COMPUTER CLARIFIES INACCURATE REPORTING
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Feb. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Cray Computer

Corp. (NASDAQ: CRAY) today issued the following press release in order to correct some inaccurate reporting which has come to management's attention regarding the company's new business plan.
Although the company will not assemble a 16 processor system ready for shipment without a signed contract, it is continuing development of the CRAY-3 in all configuration sizes, 4, 8 and 16 processors. The CRAY-3 is modular in design, therefore, smaller 4 or 8 processor systems can be sold separately or aggregated for the sale of a 16 processor version. In addition, although the company is not increasing its expenditures, the company is continuing at the present levels of spending toward development of the CRAY-3. The search for a potential partner is aimed at the possible expansion of capability to manufacture and market the smaller configurations, and not to enable the company to develop the CRAY-3 system, including the 16 processor.
With respect to the software for the CRAY-3, the company has enhanced the software it inherited from Cray Research Inc. This enhanced software has been in customer use and has performed satisfactorily on the CRAY-2 and has run on the CRAY-3 simulator. It is anticipated that this current software will initially be utilized in the CRAY-3 currently under development. It is the next generation of software based on the emerging standard UNIX System V Release 4 from UNIX Systems Laboratories which was the focus of the collaboration with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Work on the next generation of software continues at the company.
Cray Computer Corp. is engaged in the design and development if the CRAY-3 computer system.
