CRACKDOWN ON WORKSHY KIDS.

LAZY youngsters will face SIX MONTHS without benefit if they continue to refuse work.

That's up from the present penalty of four weeks without cash.

The move will be announced this week by Chancellor Gordon Brown as part of a two-pronged bid to get Britain back to work.

In the biggest shake-up of the welfare state since it was founded 60 years ago, Mr Brown will also offer tax benefits to ensure that every family with one parent working is better off than if they stayed on the dole.

His pounds 5 billion Working Families Tax Credit will guarantee them at least pounds 200 a week or pounds 10,000 a year.

Up to 1.5 million families will benefit.

"This is a real landmark in welfare reform," said a top Treasury insider.

"The better deal for working parents means that for the first time work will pay more than benefits."
