 CPCO NAMES NEW RATES DIRECTOR
 JACKSON, Mich., Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- James F. Bearman has been


promoted to the position of rates director in Consumers Power Company's rates and regulatory affairs department. The announcement was made by Royal P. Lefere Jr., the utility's executive director of rates and regulatory affairs, to whom Bearman will report.
 Bearman, 36, will be responsible for designing Consumers Power's electric and gas rates, as well as developing the company's revenue forecasts. He was previously principal rate analyst.
 Bearman joined Consumers Power in 1977 as a graduate rate analyst in its rates department in Jackson. He held increasingly responsible positions before leaving the company in 1984 to join Southeastern Michigan Gas Company as manager of Michigan regulation. In 1985 Bearman returned to Consumers Power's Jackson general office in its market research and pricing department.
 Bearman earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Lake Superior State College in 1977. He, his wife, Mary Ellen, and their two daughters live in Jackson.
 Consumers Power Company, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy Corporation (NYSE: CMS), is Michigan's largest utility serving almost 6 million of the state's 9 million residents in 67 of the 68 Lower Peninsula counties.
