CPA OFFERS PROTECTION FROM AN IRS AUDIT

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The following was released today by Jenkins & Company:
A new program designed to protect taxpayers in case of an IRS audit is now offered by Jenkins & Company, an accounting firm in Southfield. The IRS Audit Protection Plan offers incredible savings in the eventuality of an audit and also offers benefits to those who are never audited:
-- Whether or not an audit is pending, a CPA will handle all correspondence between the taxpayer and the IRS (the subscriber must turn over power of attorney to make this possible).
-- In case of an audit, the plan covers accounting costs for the entire audit, retroactive up to seven years, the statute of limitations on federal income tax. According to Jenkins, the average cost of an audit is $500 per audited year. (It is possible to be audited for one or all of the past seven years.) A CPA will examine the subscriber's returns, even if they were prepared by another accounting firm. A CPA will represent the subscriber before the IRS at the audit. (The client supplies Jenkins & Company with necessary background information and files, but does not attend the audit proceedings.)
-- Subscribers have access to Tax Research Services, a tax reference service which answers tax questions and gives advice on tax laws by telephone, toll-free. Hard-to-find federal and state tax forms are also available free of charge.
The IRS Audit Protection Plan subscription costs $99 the first year, and $49.95 each subsequent year. The IRS Audit Protection Plan does not cover money due the IRS or fines levied. Taxpayers with a pre-existing audit situation are not eligible to enroll in the plan. The plan is designed for all taxpayers, but, those who are aggressive with their deductions, those who have had a substantial change in income, self- employed taxpayers, and those who neglected to file for one or more years are among the most likely candidates for IRS audits.
James Jenkins, CPA, has represented over 1,000 clients before the IRS. He is president of Jenkins & Company, and Tax Research Services, Inc. For information regarding The IRS Audit Protection Plan, call 800-333-TAXX.
