COURT RULES FOR JOHNSON & JOHNSON ON LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY PRODUCT
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J., March 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ) said that U.S. Surgical Corporation (NYSE: USS) had failed in its attempt to halt the sale of a specialized surgical instrument that is sold by Ehticon Endo-Surgery, a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary. A federal court in Connecticut today denied U.S. Surgical's motion for a temporary restraining order that would have halted sale of Ethicon's multiple clip applier used in laparoscopic gall bladder surgery. U. S. Surgical alleged on March 10 that the Ethicon instrument infringes a patent that was issued to U. S. Surgical in January. A hearing on the U. S. Surgical allegation is expected sometime in the future.
