 COURT ORDERS STIPULATED PERMANENT INJUNCTION
RELATING TO USE OF UNITED ARTISTS TRADEMARK
CULVER CITY, Calif., May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The Federal District Court in Los Angeles today issued an order entering a stipulated permanent injunction resulting from an April 28, 1992, complaint by MGM-Pathe Communications Co. and its United Artists Corp. subsidiary prohibiting the use of the latter's United Artists trademark in any manner.
The lawsuit seeking the injunction was brought against Giovanni (John) and Tanja Di Stefano, Robert Preciutti and Edmund Hamburger following their attempt to establish several corporations in the United States and overseas using the United Artists name. Hamburger was formerly general counsel to Pathe Communications Corp. (NYSE: PCC) under Giancarlo Parretti, and, briefly for MGM-Pathe Communications Co. Di Stefano has claimed as association with Parretti.
"The United Artist trademark is exceptionally valuable to the company and we will continue to vigorously fight any attempts at its unauthorized or fraudulent use," stated Alan Ladd. Jr. and Dennis Stanfill, co-chairmen of the board and co-chief executive officers of MGM.
MGM is involved in the worldwide production and distribution of motion picture and television programs and operates theater chains in Europe.
