COURT FAILS TO SOLVE DWARF'S MYSTERY DEATH; Care home worker found dead woman.

Byline: Lisa Jones

MYSTERY still surrounds the death of a dwarf found with her head between her knees in a Pontypridd care home.

Lynda May Loveridge, 48, of Lanpark Road, Graigwen, Pontypridd was found by a care worker on January 20.

In a statement read to Merthyr Tydfil Coroner's Court, care worker Samantha Jane Mitchell said she went into Ms Loveridge's room on the evening before her death and found her lying on the bedroom floor ``with her head between her legs''.

She said Ms Loveridge - a 3ft 6in achondroplastic dwarf - often fell asleep while watching television or listening to music.

Ms Mitchell said: ``I tried to wake her but she groaned at me.''

The following morning Ms Mitchell went into Ms Loveridge's room and saw she was still in the same position as before.

She said: ``I touched her back and she was cold.''

Dr David Stock, consultant pathologist at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Llantrisant, examined Ms Loveridge and was unable to determine how she died.

He said that although she had some alcohol in her blood, it would not have caused her death.

Dr Stock told the court that achondroplastic dwarves tended to suffer from breathing difficulties and had trouble with their neck vertebrae. Tipping their heads forward could cause them to suffocate.

A member of Ms Loveridge's family said: ``Her stature wouldn't have allowed for her to rest her head between her knees.

The coroner, Philip Walters, recorded a verdict of death by natural causes. The cause of death could not be ascertained.
