COURSES SET FOR FAMILIES PARENTING SKILLS PART OF CLASSES.
PALMDALE - Registration has begun for five parenting courses.
The Families in Action courses are Strengthening Stepfamilies; Los Ninos Bien Educados; Love and Logic; A Teen Guide to Choosing Success, Choosing Life; and Parenting Skills for Parents with Strong-Willed or Out-of-Control Children.
The City of Palmdale-sponsored program offers the courses to parents in the Antelope Valley.
Strengthening Stepfamilies will be taught on Mondays from March 29 through April 26. The class meets from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The course is designed to tackle issues that face parents and children in divorce and remarriage.
Los Ninos Bien Educados will be held on Saturdays from Feb. 21 through April 17. The class meets 9 to 11 a.m.
The class is aimed at both parents and teachers, offering techniques in avoiding the cycle of defiance that can turn simple daily events into major power struggles, organizers said.
Love and Logic meets from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturdays beginning Feb. 28 and running through April 10. The class offers an approach to discipline that places the adult in control while at the same time placing the child in a thinking mode, organizers said.
A Teen Guide to Choosing Success, Choosing Life classes meet on Wednesdays beginning Feb. 18 and running through March 17. The class will meet 6:30-9:30 p.m. The first meeting will end at 9:30 p.m.
Teens will learn to analyze the choices they make, think about why they make those choices and learn tips and strategies to make their lives better and happier. Teens registered in this class must have parents registered in the adult class Parenting Skills for Parents with Strong-Willed or Out-of-Control Children.
Parenting Skills for Parents with Strong-Willed or Out-of-Control Children meets Thursdays beginning March 4 and runs through May 6. The first six classes meet 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., and the last four classes meet 6:30 to 9 p.m.
The course will teach parents how to intervene in the most destructive behaviors. The classes include topics regarding involving and empowering parents, bringing rapid positive behavioral change, reducing family conflict, improving the parent-child relationship and more.
