COUNTRY/POP SENSATION BILLY RAY CYRUS PERFORMS
IN CONCERT ON THE NASHVILLE NETWORK SATURDAY, JUNE 27
Billy Ray Cyrus, whose record album "Some Gave All," holds the number one spot on both the pop and country charts of Billboard magazine, will star in concert on "TNN: The Nashville Network" on Saturday, June 27. Cyrus will be featured in the "On Stage" the 30- minute concert series telecast at 7 p.m. EDT.
The concert is a repeat of an "On Stage" episode initially telecast on June 8 at 11:30 p.m., following the "TNN Music City News Country Awards." "Our first telecast of Billy Ray Cyrus created such a terrific response, we decided to show it again as quickly as we could schedule it," said "On Stage" producer Bayron Binkley.
The 30-minute Billy Ray Cyrus concert was taped by TNN in May at the Swap Shop in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. In addition to his smash hit "Achy Breaky Heart," Cyrus performs the title song from the new album "Some Gave All," and four more songs. The show includes "Could've Been Me," Cyrus' upcoming single. The video for "Could've Been Me" will premiere on "CMT: Country Music Television" on Friday, June 19.
A musical unknown only three months ago, Cyrus has become an overnight phenomenon with his first single "Achy Breaky Heart." On the momentum of music video airplay on both "The Nashville Network" and "CMT: Country Music Television," the single hit the country chart even before it was shipped to radio stations. The single has been in the number one spot for two weeks. Driven by strong sales, the song crossed onto the pop chart where it stands at number 12. The album also hit the "Hot 200" pop chart at the number four spot, the highest entry by a debut album since 1963, when the current chart format began. This week, the album jumped to number one on the pop chart -- selling 123,000 copies in a single week, with more than a million copies shipped to retail stores by Mercury Records.
