COUNTIES RISE TO CHALLENGE; Arsenal gunned down and Man U pegged back as local boys show their mettle.
Byline: GARETH FULLERTON
TUESDAY turned into a good day for the county teams at the SUPERCUPNI.
Londonderry's Premier side claimed a 1-0 victory over Arsenal at Anderson Park in Coleraine, with captain Corey McLaughlin's goal earning Martin Smith's side a famous win.
And Co Tyrone impressed in Ballymoney as they held mighty Manchester United to a 1-1 draw.
Trailing to Daniel Kavanagh's opener, Londonderry equalised from the penalty spot through Padraig Lynch to give the home fans plenty to cheer.
Meanwhile, Co Antrim were in seven-heaven as they eased to a 7-0 win over Co Fermanagh, also in the Junior section.
Glentoran youngster Callum Marshall - who scored a hat-trick on Monday - scored twice for Stef Seaton's defending champions.
In the Premier section, Co Fermanagh recorded a 1-0 win over Strikers while Co Down beat Atlante by a similar scoreline.
Co Down reached last year's Premier final before losing out to B Italia.
Their manager John Bailie said: "It means we are still in with a chance of reaching the semi-finals, which I don't think many people predicted.
"However, we still have a lot of hard work to do."
Co Down take on Japanese side Riseisha this afternoon in Castlerock as they look to reach the semi-finals of the tournament.
