COSTCO REPORTS MONTHLY SALES

 KIRKLAND, Wash., March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Costco Wholesale Corp. (NASDAQ: COST) today reported sales of $531 million for the four weeks ended March 14, an increase of 13 percent from $470 million in the same four-week period of the prior fiscal year. On a comparable warehouse basis, that is warehouses open at least a year, sales remained constant with the prior year's levels.
 As reported earlier, sales for the second quarter, the 12 weeks ended Feb. 14, were $1.796 billion, an increase of 16 percent from $1.543 billion in the second quarter of the prior fiscal year; and comparable sales increased 4 percent over the prior year's second quarter. Sales for the first half of fiscal 1993, the 24 weeks ended Feb. 14, were $3.467 billion, an increase of 18 percent from the year- earlier 24-week period of $2.945 billion; and comparable sales during this 24-week period increased at a 4-percent annual rate.
 The company ended its 1992 fiscal year on Aug. 30, 1992, with 89 warehouses in operation. During the first half of fiscal 1993, 11 new warehouses were opened; and during the four-week period ended March 14, 1993, one additional warehouse was opened -- in Nanaimo, British Columbia -- bringing to 101 the number of warehouses now in operation in 15 states and western Canada. Expansion plans for the remainder of fiscal 1993 include the anticipated opening of eight to 10 additional warehouse locations.
