CORTEX RETAINS VECTOR SECURITIES AS FINANCIAL ADVISOR

 IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Cortex Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: CORX) today announced that it had retained Vector Securities International Inc. (Deerfield, Ill.) as exclusive financial advisor to the company. Under the agreement, Vector will assist Cortex in the areas of capital raising and strategic partnering of the company's cognition enhancement and Alzheimer's disease programs.
 Alan A. Steigrod, Cortex president and chief executive officer, said "We are very pleased that our product development programs, and in particular our cognition enhancement program, have advanced to the point that we have cemented a relationship with Vector Securities.  Cortex is engaged in the discovery and development of proprietary drugs for the prevention and treatment of age-related neurological diseases and disorders. The company's primary focus is on the development of pharmaceuticals for the treatment of deficits in memory and cognition and for inhibition of the progression of Alzheimer's disease. In addition, Cortex is pursuing the development of a new class of calpain inhibitors for the treatment of various arterial diseases, including restenosis and vasospasm.
