An error has slipped into the English version of the interview with Vladimir Chizhov, Russia's ambassador to the EU, that was published on 28 January (4796). The questions and answers should have been highlighted as follows:
Hasn't the situation improved after the appointment of the high representative for foreign affairs and the president of the European Council?
The EU took a position that it needed to speak with one voice with third countries, including mine. What did they do? They created three positions.
There is also a significant difference in perception between Russia and the EU of the current events in Ukraine. EU is describing anti-government protesters in Kyiv as peaceful demonstrators, while Russia calls them extremist nationalists.
The EU does not speak about peaceful demonstrations anymore . .
French President Francois Hollande called on Ukraine, on 23 January, to stop all forms of violence against "peaceful demonstrations that take place in Kyiv.
We could have debated the issue back in November or early December. But not any longer. Anyone who is not blind and deaf would see that those so-called peaceful demonstrators are not in fact peaceful demonstrators. Peaceful demonstrators do not throw Molotov cocktails. You cannot see the EU flags on Maidan Square anymore. Most of the flags are red and black - those of the ultranationalists. The portraits used by the demonstrators are not of Van Rompuy and Barroso, but of Stepan Bandera, who was a well-known Nazi collaborator, including in Poland, where he is considered a war criminal.
