 PHILADELPHIA FEDERATION OF TEACHERS SCHEDULES
STRIKE AUTHORIZATION VOTE FOR WEDNESDAY NIGHT, JUNE 24
The Philadelphia Federation of Teachers (PFT) has announced that PFT members will take a strike authorization vote on Wednesday night, June 24, at the Philadelphia Convention Center.
Thousands of public school employees from all over the city are expected to attend the 7:30 p.m. meeting and rally.
The PFT's current contract with the board of education, covering some 21,000 school employees, is set to expire at midnight on Aug. 31 .
If PFT members approve the motion to authorize a strike, the union's executive board will be empowered to call a strike at any point it decides to do so, the moment the contract expires.
Representatives of the press will be confined to the Convention Center's first floor press room and will not be allowed in the Convention Hall itself while the PFT meeting is taking place. Union officials will brief members of the news media during the meeting, and PFT President Ted Kirsch will speak at a press conference immediately following the strike authorization vote.
Pastries and refreshments will be provided in the press room.
CONTACT: Sandy Santello of the PFT, 215-567-4050.
