CORPORATIONS TAKE THE LEAD IN RAISING FUNDS TO HELP DISADVANTAGED

BOSTON, Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- In an effort to bridge the gap left by a decrease in government funding to non-profit organizations, The Prudential Insurance Company of America and its employees are making a difference. A check in excess of $15,000 will be presented to the United Way of Massachusetts Bay on Wednesday, Jan. 12. The funds were raised during the '93-'94 campaign -- a four percent increase from last year.
"The increase is largely due to the types of individuals we have working in our organization," comments Senior Vice President Mike Buckley. He adds, "Our employees genuinely care about their community, and their continued efforts to reach out to those less fortunate, especially in today's economy, is admirable."
The gift is being presented during Prudential's Appreciation Week, a time when the executives and management staff of Prudential honor employees for their dedicated service throughout 1993. Thelma Slavin, a regional consultant, headed up the 1993 fundraising effort and is scheduled to make the presentation on behalf of the employees.
Aimee Coolidge will accept this gift on behalf of the United Way at the appreciation breakfast on Wednesday at the Top of the Hub Restaurant. The Prudential proudly supports the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and other community organizations for their efforts in making Massachusetts a better place to live and work.
