 CORESTATES EXPANDS PRO CYCLING SPONSORSHIP
PHILADELPHIA, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- CoreStates Financial Corp has

expanded its sponsorship of professional bicycle racing to include three world class cycling events in 1992.
Known as the CoreStates Classics, the three-race series will feature the inaugural CoreStates Hamilton Classic in Lancaster, Pa., the fourth annual CoreStates NJNB Classic in Freehold, N.J., and the eighth annual CoreStates USPRO Cycling Championship in Philadelphia. The CoreStates Championship is the official road racing cycling championship of the United States.
The 1992 CoreStates Classics are sanctioned by the United States Professional Cycling Federation (USPRO) and listed on the international cycling federation (FICP) race calendar. All three events will offer valuable world ranking points for the competitors.
The inaugural CoreStates Hamilton Classic in Lancaster is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, 1992. The 65-mile circuit race is a featured event of Lancaster Celebration 250, a three-month-long 250th birthday bash for the city. The race will feature top professional and national-team- level amateur cyclists from the United States and around the world. Beginning at 5:45 p.m., and concluding at approximately 8:30 p.m., the racers will complete nine laps on a 7.2-mile circuit that runs through Lancaster, Lancaster County Park, and a number of the city's neighborhoods. The race will start and finish in front of Hamilton Bank at 100 N. Queen St. in Lancaster.
The fourth annual CoreStates NJNB Classic is scheduled for Thursday, June 4, starting at 4 p.m. Top professional and national team level amateur cyclists from the United States and around the world will compete on 15 laps around a six-mile circuit through Freehold Borough and Freehold Township. The 90-mile race carries a total purse of $15,000.
Hundreds of thousands of spectators have come out each year for the CoreStates US PRO Cycling Championship. Approximately 100 of the world's best professional cyclists compete in the longest (156 miles) one-day cycling race in the country. Touring in and around some of Philadelphia's best-known neighborhoods, the competitors vie for a total purse of $110,000. The CoreStates Championship is the finale of the CoreStates Championship Festival, a nine-day series of races, street fairs, exhibits and other events involving the community.
Several European pro teams are expected to compete in the CoreStates Championship, including Mercatone Uno (Italy), Gaseosas Glacial (Colombia), Wigarma (Spain), and Blieker-Teppiche (Switzerland).
A race permit for the CoreStates USPRO Cycling Championship was issued by the United States Professional Cycling Federation.
The CoreStates USPRO Cycling Championship is organized by International Cycling Productions (ICP), an event productions firm specializing in the organization and marketing of professional cycling events.
