COREL CORPORATION RELEASES COREL(R) CD CREATOR, NEW SOFTWARE MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO RECORD CD-ROM, CD AUDIO AND MIXED MODE DISCS

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Corel Corporation (Nasdaq-NNM: COSFF; TSE:COS)announced today the release of Corel(R) CD Creator, CD writer software that allows users to easily produce digital audio, data or mixed mode compact discs in a Windows 3.1x environment. Corel has leveraged its existing SCSI and CD-ROM expertise to produce Corel CD Creator.
"Corel CD Creator makes it possible for users to archive their files, prioritize their files for faster access, and create their own audio CDs, including the packaging, in a few simple steps," said Dr. Michael Cowpland, president and chief executive officer of Corel Corporation. "It's a unique product that offers users an economical, flexible and easy way to record CDs."
Shipping in late November, Corel CD Creator allows any user to connect a compact disc recorder to an existing system and create customized compact discs. With Corel CD Creator, users may store any combination of digital audio and data on a compact disc, capable of holding up to 74 minutes of digital audio or 650 MB of data.
Corel CD Creator is designed to run on a typical multimedia system and requires minimal temporary disk space to record a layout. The available hard drive space needs only to be as large as the longest track to be recorded.
Corel CD Creator graphically and textually displays the amount of space required on the CD-ROM disc to record the layout. The status information also displays the amount of hard disc space that is required to record the layout. An integrated "disc wizard" helps novice or infrequent users create compact discs through a series of step-by-step questions and explanations. All information contained within the printed documentation is available on-line.
With a suggested list price of $249 US/$349 CDN, Corel CD Creator includes four integrated editors:
-- AUDIO TRACKS EDITOR--for designing the layout of audio
information. Users may include audio tracks from existing discs
and WAV files. Users may "drag and drop" tracks into
different positions to customize the order that tracks are
recorded. All tracks, including WAV files, may be previewed and
merged to create composite tracks. WAV files are automatically
converted into compact disc quality. Users with large capacity
hard drives may store tracks in the music cache to optimize the
 performance of future recordings.
-- DATA FILES EDITOR--for designing the layout of data files.
Similar to the standard Windows File Manager, this editor allows
users to drag directories and files from most desktop file
manager applications and drop them into the Data Files Editor.
These files may then be prioritized for faster access from the
 recorded disc.
-- JEWEL CASE INSERT EDITOR--allows users to customize the
compact disc insert. Corel CD Creator automatically builds a
default insert based on the properties of the layout, but users
may also choose to add clipart or graphics from applications
such as CorelDRAW(TM) in order to further customize their jewel
case insert. The editor supports OLE 2 and allows users to
 modify fonts and character sizes.
-- PCD CREATOR EDITOR--allows users to graphically create a disc
of photo CD-ROM images. These images may be sourced from a
variety of Kodak photo CD format discs or Corel Professional
 Photos(TM) CD-ROMs.
In addition, Corel CD Creator includes the following three utilities:
-- WAV file editor for editing WAV files.
-- CD Browser for managing the disc names database.
-- Session Changer for changing the current session of a
 multisession disc.
 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
 Minimum system requirements are:
 -- 486/33 with 8 MB RAM
 -- DOS/Windows 3.1x operating system
 -- Corel-certified recorder
An optional CD-ROM Drive supporting compact disc-digital audio (CD-DA) extraction and an optional sound card supporting 44 kHz 16 bit stereo are also useful for creating audio compact discs. Corel also includes built-in system tests that check the system compatibility for users.
COREL CD CREATOR CERTIFICATION PROGRAM AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT
Corel will manage an ongoing certification program with a mandate to test and certify all major compact disc recorders. Modelled after the SCSI approved product program, this agenda will ensure that users purchase hardware that has been tested for compatibility with their system configuration.
Corel will also provide free technical support on a toll line for Corel CD Creator. Customers must pay for their telephone call, but there is no time limit or restriction on the number of times they may call. Alternatives include Corel's faxback program, Compuserve and BBS.
