COREL AND NCR FORGE STRATEGIC SCSI ALLIANCE

OTTAWA, March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- New support provides powerful SCSI performance for PCI Bus PCs
Corel Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: COSFF) and NCR Microelectronic Products Division today announced a strategic alliance through which both companies will work together to advance SCSI technology. In support of this agreement, the companies announced CorelSCSI's support for NCR's Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) Device Management System (SDMS) software and NCR's revolutionary 53C810 PCI/SCSI controller, which is integrated directly on to the motherboard. Combined, they allow users to connect a wide range of SCSI peripherals to PC systems and eliminate the need to install additional SCSI host adapter cards.
"Working together, NCR and Corel have achieved a new milestone for SCSI technology," said Dr. Michael Cowpland, CEO and president of Corel Corporation. "Combining CorelSCSI, NCR's new 53C810 PCI/SCSI controller, and their SDMS software, we provide PC users with one of the most powerful and advanced solutions to integrating SCSI peripherals."
"Combining CorelSCSI with NCR's SCSI product line and SDMS software plus the 53C810 PCI/SCSI controller targeted to the PC market, provides a high level of strategic value to our customers. This combination enables NCR to bring the performance and flexibility of workstation class SCSI devices to PC systems," said Alan D. Lofthus, assistant vice president, I/O Products Business Unit, NCR Microelectronic Products.
 SDMS
NCR's SDMS is a complete SCSI software offering that supports both CAM and ASPI for the popular operating systems in the PC market. SDMS provides support for the entire NCR SCSI product line, including the NCR53C810, for the PC market.
 NCR53C810 SCSI Controller
The NCR family of SCSI devices, targeted to the PC environment, is spearheaded by the NCR53C810. It is the world's first high-performance Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI)/SCSII/O processor that connects directly to the PCI bus and provides a total SCSI solution on the motherboard. The device is fabricated in submicron CMOS and functions as a zero-wait state, 32-bit PCI master replacing the functionality of an entire SCSI host adapter board. It complies with both the PCI standard and the SCSI-2 standard for ten megabyte/second fast SCSI. In addition, it complies with the SCSI-3 Parallel Interface (SPI) Document, supporting fast single-ended SCSI operation.
 Comprehensive SCSI software
Through it's support for SDMS, CorelSCSI, Corel's comprehensive SCSI software, provides a powerful solution to integrating all major SCSI peripherals to DOS, Windows, Novell NetWare file servers, and OS/2 - based systems.
CorelSCSI allows the integration of up to seven of the following supported peripherals off a single host adapter:
 -- Hard drives
 -- Removable drives
 -- CD-ROM drives
 -- Floptical drives
 -- DAT drives
 -- QIC tape drives
 -- WORM optical drives
 -- Rewritable optical drives
 -- Multifunction optical drives
 -- Optical disk jukeboxes
CorelSCSI also includes tape back-up software, CD-AUDIO, multi- session support for Kodak Photo CD, as well as other utilities that let the user customize the performance of the SCSI peripherals.
 Pricing and Availability
Corel will continue to offer CorelSCSI as a software only solution for $99 US, and $119 CDN. The NCR53C810 is available now for $30.40 each in quantities of 5,000 pieces in 100-pin plastic quad flat (PQFP) package.
