COP BOSSES LAND pounds 100K.

By TOM McTAGUE ELECTED police and crime commissioners will be paid up to pounds 100,000 a year - costing taxpayers millions - despite 34,000 jobs being axed in cuts.

Home Secretary Theresa May said the 41 new posts across England and Wales, created despite a backlash from police chiefs, would cost the Government pounds 4.1million a year.

But Labour said the real price would be pounds 100million once other factors are added in.

David Hanson, Labour's Shadow Policing Minister, said: "Instead of spending over pounds 100million on police chiefs, this out-of-touch Government should use the cash to save 2,000 constables and invest in gang-prevention programmes."

Elections could take place next November and successful candidates in larger forces, including Greater Manchester and West Midlands, are likely to be the best paid.
