COORS PURE WATER 2000 WINS ENVIRONMENTAL MARKETING AWARD

GOLDEN, Colo., July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Coors Brewing Co. and its Pure Water 2000 program won a top environmental marketing award at the Environmental Marketing and Advertising Council's awards ceremony June 30 at the United Nations.
Coors Pure Water 2000 was honored along with other environmental advertising and marketing campaigns as part of the United Nation's Environmental Programme in cooperation with the Environmental Marketing and Advertising Council and the Center for Resource Management.
The awards ceremony was a highlight of the environmental conference titled "Business and the Environment: A Partnership for Profit and Sustainability." The conference was designed to demonstrate the United Nations' commitment to carrying out Agenda 21 from last year's Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Agenda 21 focuses on integrating business sustainability with environmental stewardship.
Coors Pure Water 2000 was awarded first place for Excellence in Environmental Marketing in the Corporate Multi-Media category, based on Pure Water 2000 television advertising and related marketing materials. GSD&M Advertising, Austin, Texas, created the television advertisement; Coors Brand Marketing, Marketing Services and Corporate Communications departments developed the printed materials and support programs.
The television ad and related point-of-sale materials featured Peter Coors, chief executive officer, Coors Brewing Co., in a picturesque Rocky Mountain stream setting, talking about the importance of preserving and improving our nation's water supply and Coors' commitment to that goal through Pure Water 2000.
Bob Garfield, ad review columnist for Advertising Age, who attended the environmental conference, called the Pure Water 2000 television ad credible and sincere. In selling beer, Coors sells water, therefore, there is a logical connection between Pure Water 2000 and Coors, he said.
"Coors in concerned about water because it is a key ingredient in our products, and water preservation, conservation and protection are national concerns," said Peter Coors. "Pure Water 2000 is a natural fit as it unites our efforts with those of other environmentally responsible organizations. Through Pure Water 2000, we are proving that business and environmental communities can work together in productive partnerships to protect the environment."
Coors Pure Water 2000, now in its fourth year, is a national grass roots program dedicated to water preservation and protection by fostering cooperative action among industry, the environmental community, government and the public.
Since its inception, Coors Pure Water 2000 and its network of local Coors distributors have provided more than $1.5 million in funding and other support to more than 600 water resource projects by forging alliances with local environmental organizations nationwide.
Pure Water 2000 has worked with such groups as The Nature Conservancy, Seattle's Puget Sound Alliance, the Texas General Land Office, Keep Florida Beautiful, the Delaware Riverkeeper, the Nebraska Groundwater Foundation and Trout Unlimited. More than 150 local projects are being executed in 1993.
