COORS BREWING ANNOUNCES RECORD BEER SALES FOR FISCAL 1991

COORS BREWING ANNOUNCES RECORD BEER SALES FOR FISCAL 1991
GOLDEN, Colo., Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Coors Brewing Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of Adolph Coors Co. (NASDAQ: ACCOB), today announced record beer sales for fiscal 1991, surpassing 1990's record year by 224,000 barrels. Coors Brewing Co. achieved the highest volume growth rate among major U.S. brewers in 1991.
For the 52-week fiscal year ended Dec. 29, 1991, the company reported beer sales volume of 19,521,000 barrels, a 1.2 percent increase over the 19,297,000 barrels sold during 1990. Beer sales during the 12-week fourth quarter of 1991 were 4,241,000, a 1.1 percent increase from 4,195,000 barrels during the fourth quarter of 1990.
Peter H. Coors, chairman and president of Coors Brewing Co., said, "Although beer industry sales in the United States declined last year from 1990, we are very pleased to report that Coors Brewing Co. achieved the highest volume growth rate of any major U.S. brewer in 1991. In posting its seventh consecutive year of record beer sales, our company captured more than 10 percent of total U.S. brewing industry domestic sales."
Coors added, "Higher volume was partly the result of continued strong growth from Coors Light and Keystone Light. In addition, we expanded international sales of our quality beers and successfully introduced three new products: Coors Dry, Keystone Dry and Coors Cutter.
"Nonetheless," he noted, "1991 was a challenging year for our company. We expect our financial results for 1991 to be affected by increased costs associated with capacity expansion, advertising, property abandonments and administrative overhead."
Company officials emphasized that sales volumes of Coors Brewing Co. are not necessarily indicative of the financial performance of Coors Brewing Co. or Adolph Coors Co. Fiscal 1991 financial results for Adolph Coors Co. are scheduled to be reported in mid-February.
