 MANAGING PARTNER FOR DALLAS CLIENT SERVICE CLUSTER
 NEW YORK, Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of the firm's new strategic direction Coopers & Lybrand Chairman Eugene M. Freedman today announced the appointment of Jerry W. Walker as managing partner for the Dallas client service cluster.
 Walker, formerly managing partner of the Dallas office, will now direct firm operations in offices in six cities: Dallas, Fort Worth, Denver, Tulsa, Oklahoma City and Salt Lake City.
 "Jerry's proven performance as an outstanding client service leader will enable him to serve as a catalyst for the growth of our people and our firm," said Freedman.
 The firm's new strategy is designed to ensure high quality and efficient delivery of services, Freedman explained. The cluster structure links Coopers & Lybrand offices, promoting a teamwork approach to serving its clients, said Freedman.
 Walker brings to the position 30 years of public accounting experience in serving some of Coopers & Lybrand's most important clients and in managing significant offices within the firm.
 During his career with the firm, which stretches back to 1962, Walker has been managing partner of the Dallas office and of the former Southwest region. in 1975, he opened the firm's first office in Memphis, where he served as managing partner for four years. Walker is a member of Coopers & Lybrand's Firm Council, the firm's governing body.
 Walker holds a bachelor of science degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. After college, he served three years as an officer in the U.S. Air Force.
 Walker is a member of the Dallas Citizens Council, the Greater Dallas United Way Campaign, and chairman of the finance committee of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He also serves as a member of the associates board of the Graduate School of Business at Southern Methodist University.
 In the recently announced new strategic direction, Freedman stressed that a strong client focus combined with an orientation to provide excellent client service at all levels will lead the firm into the next century.

In addition to 16 client service clusters, the strategy focuses on five core businesses (business assurance, human resource consulting, performance improvement, process management and tax) and six core competencies (business processes and quantitative analysis, human resource development, international, relationship management, and technology).
