COOPER TIRE REPORTS RECORD SECOND QUARTER
FINDLAY, Ohio, July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Cooper Tire & Rubber

Company (NYSE: CTB) reported that excellent demand for its products contributed to record quarterly sales and earnings for the period ended June 30.
For the quarter, sales amounted to $306.4 million, an increase of 22 percent, compared with 1991 second quarter sales of $250.3 million. Earnings for the period increased 35.5 percent to $26.4 million, equal to 32 cents per share, versus $19.5 million, or 24 cents per share, in the same period last year.
During the first six months of 1992, net sales were $575.5 million compared with 1991 first half sales of $458.1 million. Earnings for the half amounted to $46.7 million, or 56 cents per share, versus $31.8 million, or 39 cents per share, in the 1991 period.
Cooper Tire chairman Ivan W. Gorr, in announcing the record quarterly results, said, "Demand for our tire products continued very strong during the period. To satisfy our independent dealer customer needs, we are expanding tire production capacity at all of our tire plants -- Findlay, Texarkana, Tupelo and our new plant in Albany, Ga.
"Sales of engineered products was also excellent," he stated. "Orders from original equipment automotive manufacturers grew significantly during the quarter. Our engineered products plants operated on efficient schedules, and we are currently expanding production capacity for new business commitments.
"We expect the excellent demand for Cooper products and services will be sustained in the forthcoming quarters. Our outstanding employee team persists in developing new opportunities and maintaining cost controls, high quality and productivity. Cooper Tire & Rubber Company should have another outstanding year."
